For almost 60 years, the KC-135 has served as the backbone of the USAF's strategic air-refueling fleet, extending the reach and duration of US airpower across the globe. Developed alongside the Boeing 707, the Stratotanker was initially conceived to extend the reach of US bombers, but has since been used to extensively support fighters, bombers, and airlift aircraft all over the globe, since 1957.
This print features a Stratotanker in the livery of the Hawaii ANG's 203rd Air Refueling Squadron, which was the final service assignment for KC-135 60-329. This aircraft and its crew was awarded the Mackay trophy for supporting the rescue of a downed US Navy pilot in 1967. It also features unique nose art for the Young Tiger Task Force, a nickname given to the SAC assigned tankers deployed to the Vietnam theater to support fighter operations, including numerous missions flown into hostile airspace to save fighters low on fuel.
