This print showcases VX-9's infamous F-14D painted in all black as the squadron flagship, VANDY ONE. AIRTEVRON NINE is the modern day US Navy Fighter Test and Evaluation Squadron, having assumed the combined heritage and roles of the previous VX-4 and VX-9. This stunning gloss back scheme is a nod to the previous CAG schemes flown by VX-4 and VX-9 on the F-4 and F-14A aircraft. While VX-9 had an all-black F-14A with the Playboy Bunny tail flash in the mid-1980s, by the 1990s this emblem was considered politically unacceptable, and the Bunny was replaced by the VX-9 Vampires logo in white on the tail. In 2004, as the unit prepared to move on after the retirement of the F-14, this F-14D, Bureau No. 164604, revived the Bunny markings as a nod to heritage and a farewell tip of the cap for the F-14. The markings were appropriate, as 164604 was the last F-14 produced, and flew the types final sorties with AIRTEVRON NINE. Grab your copy of this shiny, gloss black Tomcat, and add this heritage to your aviation collection!
